Rheinmetall has received a low single-digit million-euro order from the Portuguese Army to deliver 1,500 LM-LowProfile laser modules.
Designed for use on compact assault rifles and other small arms, the minute LM-LowProfile laser module has been developed by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics of Stockach in Germany.

The device can be attached to any standard assault rifle through a standard interface as defined by ‘MIL-STD 1913/NATO STANAG 4694’. It weighs approximately 160g and is 85mm long.
The LM-LowProfile laser module is powered by a CR123 battery and consists of visible and infrared target markers, as well as a focusable infrared illuminator.
The contract, first booked in October last year, defines the delivery of the laser module devices under three lots.
Delivery of the modules has already started and is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of this year.

In addition, a trigger cable can be used to remotely control the device or by directly pushing the button on it.
To execute the order, Rheinmetall has partnered with its local sales partner NT Group Portugal.
During the trials conducted by the Portuguese Army, the device has delivered tough competition to its rivals with respect to ergonomics and performance.
Rheinmetall also said that laser engraving can be used on the devices to individualise them.
The latest order is the third contract awarded by the Portuguese military for Rheinmetall’s soldier systems.
