Fire control systems developer Smart Shooter has unveiled the Individual Weapon Overmatch Optic (IWOO) system for the first time.
The solution has been developed by the company under contract from the US Department of Defense (DoD) Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD).

The IWOO project seeks to equip tactical operators with superior capability to take down long-range static and moving land targets.
According to Smart Shooter, the advanced optical system integrated IWOO system also has small unmanned aerial system (UAS) hard-kill capability.
IWTSD special operation forces combat support coordinator / programme manager Michael Trexler said: “We are very pleased with the progress Smart Shooter has made with the IWOO design.
“We look forward to conducting operational testing and evaluation using the dual-capabilities of IWOO prototypes in 2021 against ground targets at increased ranges and to take-down drones.”

By GlobalDataThe company completed the critical design review (CDR) of IWOO in November, marking a key milestone in the programme.
With the IWTSD approval, the IWOO will enter the prototype production phase.
Delivery of the first functional system is expected by the second half of next year. The company was chosen for the IWOO project in February last year.
