The MoD noted that the vehicles induction is expected to be completed over the next four years.

It will be deployed to several fighting units as a carrier of weapons such as medium machine guns, automatic Grenade launchers and anti-tank guided missiles.

These vehicles are ‘extremely agile’ and equipped with complete protection against small arms fire.

They will also ‘assist small independent detachments’ that are required to operate this weapon system in the operational area.

The Mahindra armoured LSV is built for use by military and defence forces. It is designed to be a modular type vehicle that allows efficient maintenance.

It can be ‘upgraded or configured in the field’ for a wide range of operational applications.

According to the MoD, the contract will add another milestone to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives of India.

These initiatives have been introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India self-reliant and increase domestic defence manufacturing in the country.

Last month, the MoD announced that the Indian Army is in the process of procuring 556 augmented reality head-mounted display (ARHMD) systems.
