The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale (FMS) of Stryker vehicles to North Macedonia.

Approved by the US State Department, the estimated cost of the FMS is $210m.

The sale package will include 54 Stryker vehicles, featuring M1126 infantry carrier vehicles (ICV), M1130 command vehicles (CV), and M1129 mortar carrier vehicles (MCV).

The M2A1 .50 calibre machine guns, M6 smoke grenade launchers and associated spares, Harris radios, common remote operated weapons station (CROWS), Defense Advanced GPS Receiver, AN/VAS-5 driver’s vision enhancer, and other parts and components are included in the package.

Services such as publications and technical manuals, training, US Government and contractor technical, engineering, and logistics personnel services are also part of the FMS programme.

DSCA said in a statement: “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a Nato ally, which is an important force for the political stability and economic progress in Europe.”

General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) will serve as the principal contractor for the sale.

Stryker is derived from the GDLS Canada LAV III 8×8 light armoured vehicle, which is in service since early 2001.

The procurement will allow North Macedonia to enhance its operational capabilities and force availability.

In a separate development, the US State Department approved an FMS of 120 Javelin FGM-148 missiles to Norway for an estimated $36m.

It also includes two Javelin FGM-148 missiles fly to buy, 24 Javelin Block 1 Command Launch Units (CLUs) retrofit kits and associated equipment.

Raytheon / Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture will serve as prime contractors for this sale.
