South African defence and aerospace company Paramount and India-based engineering and technology conglomerate Bharat Forge have formed a cooperation agreement.

The partnership will see the two companies combine their technologies, capabilities and expertise to produce armoured vehicles in India.

Bharat Forge deputy managing director Amit Kalyani said: “We are very pleased to partner with Paramount Group.

“This collaboration brings together the manufacturing and technology excellence of two leading companies, which have matching synergies and complementary capabilities.

“The Kalyani M4 is a fantastic new generation vehicle, and we want to position it as the ‘future of protection’ in all markets worldwide.”

The multi-role armoured personnel carrier offers fast mobility in rough terrain and in improvised explosive device (IED) and mine affected areas.

Featuring a flat-floor monocoque hull, it provides ballistic and blast protection of up to 50kg TNT side blast or IED/roadside bombs.

It completed a suite of extreme vehicle trials in some of the adverse environments of India and is planned to serve the Indian Armed Forces in the near term.

In November 2019, Paramount and PT Pindad signed a memorandum of understanding for the development, industrialisation and joint marketing of armoured vehicle systems for the Indonesian Armed Forces.
