The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence has signed an agreement with local company Samel-90 to procure 98 combat vehicles for the country’s Special Operations Forces.
The BGL49.9m ($30.9m) procurement will include ten types of vehicles to serve different purposes for the forces.

As agreed, the contract will be implemented in three years, with the first combat vehicles are slated to be delivered in the middle of 2021.
The contract also carries a five year warranty period, during which Samel-90 will be responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles as well as replacement of consumables.
Samel-90 will also build a technical repair activities centre in Plovdiv for repairs. The facility will be staffed by personnel from the logistics battalion of the Special Operations Forces.

Joint Special Operations Command commander Major General Yavor Mateev said: “For the first time in our history, we sign a contract of this type, having such a scale and future significance for the operational capabilities of the Special Forces as well as for fulfilling our principal responsibilities under the national counter-terrorism plan.”
