Northrop Grumman Overseas Service has entered into a partnership agreement with Flight Technologies Sistemas to produce security technologies for the Brazilian Army’s integrated border monitoring system (Sistema Integrado de Monitoramento de Fronteiras – Sisfron).
Northrop Grumman C4ISR Networked Systems business unit vice president Ed Bush said that the two companies had already manufactured command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems for use in challenging environments.

Flight Technologies Sistemas co-founder and president Nei Brasil added: "This agreement with Northrop Grumman will leverage our ability to expand the portfolio of locally developed strategic products and systems, in response to our country’s growing demands in the fields of C4ISR, unmanned aerial systems and avionics systems."
Sisfron is a $6bn security programme featuring a network of surveillance radars, sensors, command and control communication systems, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to help enhance the protection of Brazilian borders gradually over the next decade.
The system has been designed to assist army in detection of smuggling, terrorism and drug trafficking by allowing coordination with all organisations and government agencies responsible for monitoring and surveillance of the land borders.

By GlobalDataImplemented in stages, the project will include overall surveillance and protection of 16,886km of land border, involving 11 neighbouring countries, ten states and 588 municipalities, which make up 27% of the nation’s territory.
The project will also support Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente E Dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as military, federal police and environmental agencies.
The Tepro consortium, formed by two Embraer defence and security companies, Savis Tecnologia and OrbiSat Indústria, was selected as the single preferred bidder for Sisfron in August.
