The Australian Government is set to upgrade Wagga Wagga defence bases as outlined in the 2020 Force Structure Plan.
It is part of A$10bn ($6.9bn) investment in New South Wales (NSW) defence facilities.

Australian Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds said: “The projects include the redevelopment of facilities at Blamey Barracks – Kapooka and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Wagga.
“Wagga Wagga’s defence bases provide initial training for every soldier, airman and airwoman in the Army and Air Force.
“Many Non-Commissioned Officers and officers post to Wagga as instructors at some stage in their career.
“Wagga Wagga will continue to play a vital role building the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) Australia needs by shaping the ADF’s biggest asset – its people.”

By GlobalDataDevelopment of facilities and infrastructure of the region will be contracted to the local businesses and industry to boost the regional economy.
This will offer an opportunity for local businesses to maximise their growth opportunities and win contracts under the Government’s Local Industry Capability Plan initiative.
Currently, further details of the project remain undisclosed.
Australian Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said: “These projects will focus heavily on-base infrastructure, such as electrical, ICT and water remediation.
“Further detail will be announced as the projects develop and will include information to help local small businesses win work through the Government’s Local Industry Capability Plan initiative.”
Last week, it was announced that the government is buying an extra regiment of Self-Propelled Howitzers and supporting vehicles for the Army.
Earlier this month, the Government of Australia decided to upgrade Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC) in Bungendore, a major base for the ADF.
