The company said the move was motivated by the need to bridge a skills shortage in the security industry.

Evolution head of risk and design Brendan McGarrity said: “If you’ve worked on a radar or weapons system, there’s a good chance you’ll have skills that can easily be transferred to a commercial environment.”

“But even if you don’t already have a trade, we can create a learning and development programme that trains you for a new career, and one that we believe will be equally rewarding.”

McGarrity added that ex-service personnel often have the skills and temperament needed to work successfully in the security industry.

The company is also launching the Evolution Academy designed to train highly-skilled engineers. The academy will welcome ex-service personnel as well as would-be engineers from non-military backgrounds.
