The second estimated $750m sale seeks five year follow-on maintenance support for the M88A1 recovery vehicles, M88A2 Hercules, M113 vehicles, M109A5 and M198 howitzers, M1070 heavy equipment trailers and trucks (HETT), M977 heavy expanded mobility tactical trucks (HEMTT), high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWV) and a tactical floating river bridge system (TFRBS).

Both the FMS packages will include spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical data, personnel training and training equipment, as well as other related elements of programme and logistics support.

Designed to provide the Iraqi Army CBRN reconnaissance units with reliable capabilities for early warning of radiological, biological, and chemical material contamination, the M1135 Strykers will also enable the service to conduct CBRN search, survey, surveillance, and sampling to lower the exposure to the hazardous agents.

Meanwhile, the second sale involving support, spares, services and equipment, is necessary to help the army continue effective use of its ground-based vehicle fleet, which has been acquired or transferred by the US over the last decade.

General Dynamics Land Systems, Karcher Futuretech, DRS Technologies, Smiths Detection and Federal Resources will serve as prime contractors for the first sale, while the principal contractor for the second FMS programme remained undisclosed.
