AM General and Lockheed Martin have delivered their respective joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) prototypes for the US government’s 14-month evaluation and testing programme at the Yuma Test Center in Arizona and Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland, US.
Both the companies have manufactured 22 prototypes as part of JLTV programme’s engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) contract awarded by the US Army in August 2012.

The 24-month contracts for AM General and Lockheed were valued at $64.5m and $65m respectively.
AM General executive vice-president and chief operating officer, John Ulrich, said the delivery reaffirms the company’s expertise in its supply chain management to drive efficiencies in cost and enhanced reliability for its government customers.
”We have great confidence that BRV-O is the solution to our soldiers’ future light tactical vehicle needs,” Ulrich said.
Lockheed Martin missiles and fire control ground vehicles vice-president, Scott Greene, said: ”These vehicles will meet the toughest demands of our soldiers and marines.”

By GlobalDataAM General is offering its blast resistant vehicle-off road (BRV-O), which is a multi-role vehicle designed to meet or exceed 100% of the EMD phase evaluation criteria in terms of protection, performance, payload, transportability, reliability and affordability.
The vehicles are being developed in two versions, including a four-seat combat tactical vehicle to support three different mission package configurations, and a two-seat combat support vehicle for supporting a utility mission package configuration for different roles across full spectrum of military operations.
Lockheed’s JLTV is designed to offer enhanced crew protection and mobility, increased fuel efficiency and improved connectivity with other platforms and systems compared with other existing general-purpose vehicles, while reducing logistical support costs.
Apart from a significant reduction in weight, the vehicle also retains the proven force protection, transportability and reliability of its previous technology development phase model.
The JLTV programme aims to replace the US Army and marine corps’ ageing high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs) fleet, which have been in active service for over 25 years.
