Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has received a contract from the Australian Department of Defence to provide improvements to CH-47F aviation trainers.
The $4.8m ($3.3m) contract requires Kratos to support the modernisation of CH-47F Chinook Avionics Trainer (CAT) and Kratos Maintenance Blended Reconfigurable Aviation Trainers (MBRATs).

The contract covers upgrades to the software, hardware and technical data package of the trainers.
The CH-47F CAT is a hands-on training system designed to simulate aircraft survivability equipment and avionics components in a ‘fully immersive physical environment’.
The trainer enables the end-user to undertake full-task training. It allows hands-on training of avionics and intermediate-level maintenance tasks.
Developed by Kratos, the MBRAT provides avionics maintenance procedures. It is also used to remove and install training for Chinook, Black Hawk and other platforms.

The upgrades will increase the throughput of student training. They will allow for the introduction of new training activities using the upgraded trainers.
Kratos Training Solutions senior vice-president Jose Diaz said: “As the global demand for training continues to increase, Kratos is expanding its training footprint to support the demanding and complex training requirements of the US and its allies worldwide by applying advanced technologies like those incorporated in the MBRAT and CAT.”
The company’s CAT and MBRAT trainers helped Australia establish a CH-47F Chinook helicopter maintenance training facility in the country.
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) used to conduct maintenance training tasks in the US before the establishment of the centre.
The training systems are located at the Army Aviation Training Centre in Oakey, Queensland.
Kratos delivered the CAT and MBRATs under a contract with Boeing Defence Australia. The contract also includes spares and support.
The Australian Defence Force completed acceptance testing of CH-47F CAT in April.
