The Jamaica Defence Force has awarded a contract to Thales Australia to deliver 12 Bushmaster vehicles.

Under the contract, the company will provide a five-year support package to ensure the highest levels of availability and performance.

Thales Australia CEO Chris Jenkins said the Bushmaster vehicles can be used for both internal security and humanitarian operations.

"The inclusion of the support package demonstrates the customer’s trust in us to deliver and maintain an effective capability over several years," Jenkins said.

"Bushmaster is a 4×4 armoured vehicle that is designed for a range of uses, including troop transport, ambulance, direct fire, mortar, engineer and command for deployment in combat and support missions."

Air transportable by C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster III and Mil Mi-26 aircraft, the vehicle can protects against the blast of claymore, anti-tank mines, anti-personnel mines, mortars, improvised explosive devices and has a range of ballistic protection kits.

Powered by a Caterpillar 3126E ATAAC turbocharged engine, Bushmaster is a 4×4 armoured vehicle that is designed for a range of uses, including troop transport, ambulance, direct fire, mortar, engineer and command for deployment in combat and support missions.

Equipped with Thales’s SOTAS M2 communication system, the vehicles are all troop carrier variants.

Deliveries of the vehicles are scheduled to commence in 2015 as part of the contract.
