Comtech Telecommunications’ California-based subsidiary, Comtech Xicom Technology, has received a contract to deliver traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) in support of the US Army Satellite Communications programme.

Delivered as part of a $7m contract awarded by a US-based system integrator, the TWTAs ordered for application in the Army form part of Comtech Xicom Technology’s latest TWTA product line, which is claimed to be the best technology the industry has to offer.

"Comtech’s TWTAs are claimed to eliminate the need for long waveguide runs and optimise transmit power, while reducing RF losses."

Comtech Telecommunications’ president and chief executive officer Fred Kornberg said: "This award confirms Comtech Xicom Technology’s leadership in high-power, high efficiency amplifiers and rewards the significant investment we’ve made in enhancing efficiency to provide the highest linear powers in the most compact packages possible while maintaining our high standards for quality and reliability."

Comtech’s TWTAs are claimed to eliminate the need for long waveguide runs and optimise transmit power, while reducing RF losses.

The CE Certified TWTA features compact, self-contained design; short waveguide run for low loss operation; internal cooling, RF filters and M&C systems; detected RF and gain control, and serial control.

Offering an enhanced blend of high-efficiency, small size and light weight, the system is aimed at providing system designers and integrators with better flexibility for optimising system designs.
