Kier Graham Defence has secured a contract to revamp existing facilities at Bassingbourn Barracks in preparation for the relocation of the British Army’s Mission Training and Mobilisation Centre (MTMC).
The £17m contract was awarded by Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), a division of the UK Ministry of Defence.

Under the contract, Kier Graham Defence will refurbish existing buildings, including accommodation blocks, offices, classrooms and training areas.
Work will also cover existing medical and dental centres and include the construction of two new training facilities.
The refurbishment will create the necessary infrastructure to support the MTMC’s training needs.
The project is part of Project Hercules, which focuses on co-locating defence capability and enabling the disposal of military sites.

By GlobalDataUnder the first stage of the MTMC, the Kent-based elements were shifted to Bassingbourn in December last year.
The latest phase will involve the relocation of MTMC elements from Chilwell Barracks in the Midlands.
The work to be delivered under the contract will pave the way for the MTMC becoming fully operational at Bassingbourn.
The site is expected to host up to 1,000 staff and troops at peak times.
DIO senior project manager Gillian Naylor said: “We are pleased to announce the award of this contract to Kier Graham Defence to refurbish and improve existing facilities at Bassingbourn Barracks to enable the MTMC units to train effectively in one location.
“This is a great example of how DIO supports our armed forces by providing the places they need to live, work, train and deploy on operations.”
Kier Graham Defence will begin work this month, with completion expected to take place in 2021.
The MTMC is used to provide pre-deployment training for troops. The facility can meet the training needs of around 12,500 personnel per year.
