The US Army has awarded a prototype other transaction agreement to VT MAK to provide simulated software solutions for its Synthetic Training Environment (STE) designed to augment live training.

The STE is a software solution designed to provide multi-echelon training and mission rehearsal capability by combining virtual, constructive and gaming training environments into a single platform.

Under the $95m agreement, VT MAK will develop and deliver the Training Simulation Software (TSS) and Training Management Tool (TMT) components of the STE.

The company has been selected to perform the work under the Training and Readiness Accelerator (TREX) that focuses on demonstration and delivery of prototypes to increase troop readiness.

The STE Common Synthetic Environment (CSE) consists of TSS, TMT, and the One World Terrain (OWT).

It can deliver the software, applications and services required to enable the Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainer (RVCT), Soldier Squad Virtual Trainer (S/SVT), and Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS).

In addition, the STE CSE will allow for interoperability with future STE capabilities such as Next Generation Constructive and Live Training Environment.

VT MAK Marketing and Information Systems vice-president Dan Brockway said: “Every technical advancement in our past dozen years has brought MAK to this achievement, where we are able to offer our capabilities and architecture that precisely meet the needs of the US Army’s ambitious STE Common Synthetic Environment.”

“The STE CSE will allow for interoperability with future STE capabilities such as Next Generation Constructive and Live Training Environment.”

The MAK CSE solution will be deployed on-premises and in the Cloud to support the army’s training at the point of need. It is based on the company’s full MAK suite of simulation software.

MAK’s VR-Forces solution serves as a unified simulation platform for both artificial intelligence-controlled and player-controlled entities.

VR-Engage is a multi-role virtual simulator that acts as the basis for RVCT and S/SVT simulators. It is designed to provide virtual player and trainee interfaces to the simulation.

VT MAK will upgrade the MAK suite with technologies and customise it over the course of the project to help the US Army meet its future missions.
