The EC725.

Eurocopter’s Brazilian subsidiary Helibras has handed over the tenth and 11th EC725 Super Puma/Cougar helicopters to the Brazilian Armed Forces.

Delivered following successful flight tests by Brazilian pilots, the helicopters form part of the €1.9bn contract awarded under Brazil’s H-XBR project to meet the country’s requirements for a mid-size multipurpose helicopter for tactical training and initial logistical support.

As part of the deal, Helibras will deliver a total of 50 such aircraft, including 16 each to the Brazilian Army, Air Force and Navy, while the remaining two Cougars will be operated by the government.

This latest helicopter delivery, with one going to the Brazilian Army and the other to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), brings the total number of EC725s in their inventory to three and five, respectively.

The first nine have successfully completed more than 4,370 flight hours, according to Helibras, and the delivery of all EC725s is scheduled for 2016.

"The EC725 is a long-range tactical transport helicopter."

Based on the civilian EC225 helicopter, the EC725 is a long-range tactical transport helicopter designed for tactical troop transport, combat search and rescue, maritime surveillance, humanitarian support, logistic ground support and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) missions.
