KVH Industries has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract for the supply of its tactical navigation (TACNAV) systems to an undisclosed international military customer.

Under the terms of the $5.2m agreement, the company will supply an unspecified number of its TACNAV Light, which is specifically designed for non-turreted vehicles, and TACNAV TLS systems for use in an armoured vehicle application.

The contract also covers the provision of programme management, engineering services and installation support. Deliveries are expected to start in the next six weeks, with all services being completed by the end of September 2014.

KVH Guidance and Stabilisation group executive vice-president Dan Conway said the TACNAV navigation solution is an important tool for US and allied soldiers, providing precision navigation and coordination of vehicles in critical situations.

"The system serves as a crucial resource for navigation and battle management, and even as a backup in GPS-denied environments, keeping soldiers safe and out of harm’s way wherever they travel," Conway said.

TACNAV features a compact design, continuous heading and pointing data output and flexible architecture, which provide accurate dead reckoning navigation irrespective of GPS availability.

Manufactured using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, the systems deliver unjammable precision navigation, heading and pointing data for vehicle drivers, crews and commanders in the theatre.

In addition, they can also serve as a heading and position source for situational awareness.

As well as the US Army and Marine Corps, TACNAV systems are used by the militaries of Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the UK.
