The Republic of Korea has placed an order for Textron Defense Systems’ GPS-guided anti-armour weapons, which are capable of destroying tanks and vehicles.

Under the $190m deal, the Republic of Korea would receive 361 war-ready versions of the CBU-105D/B wind-corrected, munitions-dispenser (WCMD) sensor weapons by late next year.

"Work under the agreement, which will take place at Wilmington and is expected to be completed by 31 December 2016, also involves the delivery of seven trainers and 18 wind-corrected munitions dispenser tail kits."

This would form part of the South Korean Government’s investment prior to the planned transfer of the nation’s defences from American command by December 2015.

Textron’s aircraft-dropped weapons could be used to combat fortifications, armoured vehicles and maritime threats.

Work under the agreement, which will take place at Wilmington and is expected to be completed by 31 December 2016, also involves the delivery of seven trainers and 18 wind-corrected munitions dispenser tail kits.

Comprising an SUU-66/B bomb with an FZU-39 fuze, the Textron CBU-97/B sensor-fuzed weapon is reportedly capable of delivering 40 lethal, self-guided projectiles, spanning a 40-acre area.
