Tactical trainer

Elbit Systems has developed a new mobile simulator in an effort to meet the functional and operational training requirements of modern artillery forces.

Called artillery tactical trainer (ATT), the virtual-constructive and networked solution is designed for force-on-force training of field artillery gun crews, ranging from individual vehicles to multiple battalion formations.

The simulator provides effective training of joint fire real-time decision making scenarios, anywhere and anytime, by connecting to the actual, operational command, control, communications, computers and intelligence and communication (C4I) areas of real platforms and weapon systems.

Elbit Systems Aerospace Division Training and Simulation Business Line vice-president Alon Afik said: "It is the latest addition to our family of embedded, independent and appended simulation and training solutions for land warfare platforms.

"Firstly, the virtual-constructive training system delivers a realistic and immersive simulation that reduces training costs to an absolute minimum, while enabling artillery crews, teams, batteries and regiments to significantly increase their operational readiness.

"The portable simulator features a wide range of enemy and friendly computer-generated forces."

"Secondly, through its use of modular interfaces, gateways and datalinks, the ATT provides a highly flexible and scalable solution that can easily be adapted or reconfigured to meet specific customer requirements and infrastructures."

The portable simulator features a wide range of enemy and friendly computer-generated forces, as well as computer models of C4I systems, weapons, munitions and fire control units, enabling real-time, man-in-the-loop simulation of complex operational and tactical scenarios, and extensive after-action reviews.

The trainer can integrate with Elbit’s combat-proven ATLAS LT and unmanned forward observers, including the Skylark I LE unmanned aerial vehicle, which is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

Working in collaboration with target acquisition and range determination systems, ATT creates a high-fidelity, three-dimensional visual environment that can be deployed in almost any terrain.

Elbit is planning hand over the simulator to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the near future.
