Leidos has secured a prime contract from the US Army to support the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Sensors Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD).

Valued at around $250m, the contract will see the company provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance research and development to the ARL SEDD.

Leidos will also develop a suite of analytic software and tools to enable the integration of large sets of data and the redeployment of new and existing sensors.

"We look forward to continuing to support the army and its mission of ensuring military superiority in locating terrorist networks, insurgent activities and our commitment to national defence."

This will help to create a system that allows efficient gathering and use of information, the company said.

Solutions provided by the company will include sensors, cloud computing, multi-source data fusion, munitions detection systems, signal processing tools and concepts.

The technologies will help locate terrorist networks and insurgent activities through persistent surveillance (PS), open source intelligence, and identification of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) systems and improvised explosive devices (IED).

The applications will convert sensor and intelligence data into actionable intelligence, which can be used by local commanders to make real-time decisions.

The multiple-award, indefinite-delivery / indefinite-quantity contract comes with a one-year base period of performance and four one-year options.

The SEDD performs research in the areas of sensors, electron devices and power and energy to provide the army with advanced technology.
