Saab has secured an order from an undisclosed customer in Switzerland to supply explosive training mortar grenades.

The deal includes the production and final assembly of 81mm explosive training mortar grenades.

Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland (SBDS) will fill the explosive components, carry out final assembly, and perform the Lot acceptance test.

Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland head Stephan Kocher said: "This order is completely in line with our strategy to strengthen and extend our product group of mortar rounds.

Delivery of mortar ammunition under the order will take place throughout 2016 and 2017, following a former development contract executed for the customer from 2015-2016, the company said in a statement.

"This contract is the largest volume of mortar rounds ever produced at SBDS."

Further details concerning the product and customer have not been disclosed by Saab.

SBDS, which operates within Saab’s Dynamics business area, designs, develops and produces mortar rounds, warheads, less-lethal applications and other energetic products.

The company offers total munitions lifecycle management and servicing of different ammunition types.

SBDS operates a development and production site with advanced test and simulation facilities in Thun, Switzerland.
