Poland has signed a memorandum to purchase the latest Patriot missile system from the US Government.
The agreement has been signed as Poland seeks to modernise its air defence, under the long-term development plan of the Polish Armed Forces.

The US Army will deliver four Patriot Configuration 3+ unites with PAC-3 missile enhancements and an integrated battle command system.
Delivery of the Patriot systems is expected to begin in 2022, with plans to achieve initial operational capability in 2023.
In a statement, Poland Minister of National Defence Antoni Macierewicz said: ‘With the acquisition of rocket launcher HOMAR, it completes the overall structure of the Polish defence system – that is, an anti-missile shield that gives us complete security against any opponent possessing any weapon that threatens Poland.’
The Patriot system has been designed to counter threats from tactical ballistic and cruise missiles, drones and advanced aircraft.

Additionally, the US will transfer technology associated with a proposed US radar and SkyCeptor missile.
The WISLA architecture will be completely integrated with SkyCeptor missiles and 360° active electronically scanned array radar, Poland’s Ministry of National Defence stated.
WISLA, a medium-range system capable of working against ballistic missiles, will also form a part of the planned air defence system of Poland.
Poland’s project to enhance its missile defence will be carried out in a phased approach.
