The US has withdrawn part of its special forces presence in Pakistan after a request from Pakistan military head General Ashfaq Kayani to the Pentagon.

A Pentagon spokesman said: “The US had been notified in writing that the government of Pakistan wished for the US to reduce its footprint in Pakistan”.
