The US Navy’s Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) has boosted worker protection from Covid-19 with the installation of stand-alone infrared body temperature detectors. All gates that give entry into the controlled industrial area have been installed with the detectors that remove the need to use hand-held thermometers. Workers can just place their wrist or forehead within 3in-5in of the temperature sensors on the infrared detectors to check their temperature.

Early research conducted by the UK’s Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) suggests that insect repellent containing Citriodiol could offer protection from Covid-19. The study is yet to be peer-reviewed. DSTL scientists tested a Citriodiol-based spray Mosi-guard’s efficacy on plastic and artificial skin. Citriodiol is derived from the oil of Eucalyptus citriodora, or lemon eucalyptus. Preliminary findings are being shared for further research.
