Spirit AeroSystems has secured $80m funding under the Defense Production Act Title III. The funding will provide the Department of Defence with additional production capacity for defence needs. It is part of the national response to Covid-19 in support of the Defense Industrial Base. The company will use the funds for the production of tooling, fabricate composite parts and machine complex metallic parts at its Wichita facility in Kansas, US. This will also help the company in retaining employees with critical skills.

Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst has used its Additive Manufacturing (AM) process to 3D print face shields. It has supplied around 1,900 face shields to the Ocean County Office of Emergency Management in New Jersey, US. NAWCAD Lakehurst’s metal-based AM facility made use of both additive and traditional manufacturing methods to produce face shields. The items were also distributed to the United States Naval Ship Comfort, the US Air Force’s 305th Air Mobility Wing and 108th Wing stationed at JB MDL, and NAWCAD Lakehurst personnel.

SNC-Lavalin PAE Joint Venture has selected Calian Group to support the delivery of up to ten 100-bed Mobile Respiratory Care Units (MRCUs) for Canada. Calian will coordinate the obtaining and delivery of material, supplies and expertise in support of the MRCUs. It will partner with Medline for this contract. SNC-Lavalin PAE president and general manager Robert Spencer said: “In an enduring 17-year partnership supporting the Canadian Armed Forces on deployed operations in Bosnia, Kabul and Kandahar in Afghanistan, and currently in Iraq and Kuwait, it is an honour and privilege to leverage the significant experience, capabilities and resources of SNC-Lavalin and PAE in serving Canadians at home.”
