The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) Donnington Defence Fulfilment Centre has reached a milestone in the delivery of critical medical equipment to NHS frontline. The distribution centre has despatched more than 10,000 items comprising Bi-Lateral Ventilators, oxygen concentrators, Mechanical Ventilators, Syringe Drivers and Volumetric Pumps in three months. The supplies were delivered across all of the UK, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. The centre is operated by the MOD’s procurement arm Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S).

Lydall has secured investment from the US Department of Defense (DOD) to increase the production capacity of meltblown filtration media. The critical commodity component is used to make N95 respirators and surgical masks. With this contract, the company will install two fine fibre meltblown lines to its Rochester facility in New Hampshire, US. The increased domestic production capacity is expected to support the manufacture of up to an estimated 100 million N95 respirators per month or 383 million surgical masks per month by May next year.
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has successfully completed the delivery of face shields under an order placed by the US Department of Defense (DOD). The order was facilitated by the US Embassy in Pretoria and saw the company assemble and supply a total of 50,000 face shields to the South African Military Health Service members. The order was funded by the US AFRICOM Humanitarian Assistance programme while Ford sponsored the entire labour costs for its employees. The Covid-19 face shields will also be distributed to Botswana, Namibia and the Kingdoms of Eswatini and Lesotho. So far, the company has manufactured 258,000 face shields.
