The US Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have reached an agreement with Moderna for 100 million of its Covid-19 vaccine doses. Moderna and scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) have co-developed the investigational vaccine, mRNA-1273. According to Moderna, the vaccine candidate is an mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 encoding for a prefusion stabilised form of the Spike (S) protein.

US-based medical device company Prep Tech has inked a non-exclusive licence agreement for the US Army’s see-through physical barrier. Known as the Covid-19 Airway Management Isolation Chamber (CAMIC), the device is suitable for use in a hospital or on in-the-field operations. Army healthcare professionals invented the product in March and FDA granted it Emergency Use Authorization in June this year. The agreement transfers the Army’s intellectual property rights on the tool to the company. TechLink senior technology manager Quinton King helped facilitate the agreement.

The Spanish Army is working on establishing a makeshift clinic in the Clinic University Hospital’s parking lot in Zaragoza, reported Anadolu Agency. Being built on request from Spanish authorities, the clinic will help expand the hospital’s capacity to care for Covid-19 patients. Currently, the facility has 160 positive patients with 70 beds free. The new clinic will accommodate 40 patients. It is expected to be operational by this Friday.
