The US Navy’s Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) has secured approval to administer Covid-19 Convalescent Plasma (CCP). The US Army Medical Research and Development Command has certified the carrier as an authorised site. The vessel received 20 units of CCP from Naval Hospital Guam as part of an effort by the Department of Defense (DOD). In May, the DOD started an effort to collect 8,000 donated units of plasma from patients who have recovered from Covid-19 illness.
The US Department of Defense (DOD) has funded the personal protective equipment (PPE) donation for Maldives’ frontline responders combatting Covid-19. The PPE donation is worth $150,000 and will help bolster the nation’s pandemic response efforts and keep its frontline responders safe. It is the third donation to the Maldives. The US is also funding a $2m package of support for the Maldives. US Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) to Sri Lanka and Maldives Martin Kelly said: “The United States is proud to provide protection for Maldivian healthcare workers as they care for Maldivians suffering from Covid-19.”
Michigan National Guard’s 126th Army Band has assisted Feeding America food banks in mobile meal distribution and supporting communities during Covid-19 pandemic. The team helped process more than 1.5 million pounds of product. Some of the activities carried out by them were preparing warehouse orders, picking order pallets for other distribution sites, packaging whole food products, and emergency food boxes, sorting donations, and supporting mobile food drives.
