StereoVision Imaging (SVI) has received a follow-on order from the US Government for the delivery of additional next-generation portable Facial Recognition Binocular System (FRBS) units.

This award brings the value of the purchased units to over $4.5m.

The units are expected to allow the US and its coalition troops to carry out stand-off surveillance operations along with real-time actionable intelligence.

It aids in the detection of the non-cooperative persons-of-interest in uncontrolled environmental scenarios with high accuracy.

Additionally, the system permits the timely data analysis and data-to-decision for command leadership.

According to a US Central Command (CENTCOM) Joint Urgent Operational Need (JUON) statement, SVI is the sole-source provider of FRBS technology to the US Army. The company plans to deliver the units next year.

The SVI FRBS platform integrates its facial recognition technology in a mobile binocular format.

SVI founder and president Gregory Steinthal said: “With this next shipment, we believe we have entered an important next phase with the design and initial deployments of our FRBS.

“We anticipate the programme will soon advance to full production and look for it to transition into formal programme of record.

“We are uniquely positioned as the sole-source provider of this advanced technology to the US military, which affirms the tremendous unmatched capabilities it provides.”

Last month, US Army Chief of Infantry brigadier general David Hodne said that the US Army is working with industry partners to equip soldiers with advanced gear to gain an edge in close combat.

In the same month, L3Harris Technologies received an order from the US Army for the delivery of its Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B).
