Saab is broadening its footprint in Sweden’s Gothenburg area with an additional site in Mölnlycke, in response to the growing market for radar and sensor technology, alongside a robust hiring pace.

Situated within the Härryda municipality, this expansion will facilitate Saab’s ongoing growth and bolster its capacity to fulfil orders in the region.

Saab Surveillance business area head Carl-Johan Bergholm said: “In order to meet the high demand for our world-leading capabilities, we are expanding our operations in the Gothenburg region with additional office space and production capacity.

“Gothenburg has a strong cluster of microwave competence as well as universities and other industry. We look forward to continuing to grow and create jobs in the region.”

Saab’s current premises in Kallebäck, Gothenburg, will remain operational while the company incorporates the new facility in Mölnlycke designed to accommodate approximately 500 workstations.

Presently, Saab employs roughly 3,200 individuals in Gothenburg.

The company’s Gothenburg operations are focused on the development and production of both airborne and ground-based radar and sensor systems.

Among their products are the GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft and the Giraffe radar family.

Saab has recently bolstered its production capabilities to meet increased production demands for these technologies by opening additional facilities in Halmstad, Sweden, as well as in Finland and the UK.

In April 2025, Saab reported an increase in sales, reaching Skr15.79bn ($1.63bn) for the first quarter, marking an 11.3% rise and an organic sales growth of 10.9% compared to Skr14.18bn in the first quarter of 2024.

The Swedish defence contractor attributed this growth to the performance across all its business areas during the quarter. Combitech, along with Dynamics and Aeronautics, made the most significant contributions to this increase.

During the first quarter, there was a notable rise in order bookings in the business area Surveillance compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. This upsurge was primarily attributed to heightened demand for radar systems, particularly within the Arthur and Giraffe product lines, as well as increased orders for sight and fire control systems.
