The Swedish FMV has placed an order for FlexNet-Four software defined radios to support its tactical data radio system (TDRS) programme for advanced ground mobile communications.

Rockwell Surface Solutions vice-president and general manager Bruce King said the radio provided Swedish Armed Forces with mobile wireless networking in a self-contained communications system.

"The FlexNet-Four embraces the same objectives envisioned by the US joint tactical radio system programme and supports real-time network-centric operations and enhanced interoperability," he said.

Under the $20.7m contract, radios will be designed with an open and secure architecture based on multiband and multichannel communication systems.

The solution introduces new possibilities for cooperative combat engagement and provides the enhanced mobility required by the armed forces.
