The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded an additional delivery order for 89 Navistar International MXT Husky vehicles.
The $56m contract is a follow-on order for 262 MXT Husky units under the UK tactical support vehicle (TSV) programme, awarded in April 2009.
The Husky, a medium variant, can accommodate a four-person crew and is equipped with a MaxxForce D 6.0 L V8 engine, Allison five-speed automatic transmission and Plasan Sasa’s armouring solution.
Navistar president Archie Massicotte said the Husky units were presently used to support missions in Afghanistan and the procurement of the additional vehicles is a priority to the UK.
“Improvised explosive devices continue to threaten coalition forces and the MXT provides the protection and mobility warfighters need to complete missions safely,” he said.
The delivery of the units is scheduled to begin by the end of October 2010 and will be completed by early 2011.
