General Dynamics Canada has received an order from the US Army to supply at least 1,000 smart display units (SDU) for installation on mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles.

The US Army currently has 16,000 MRAP vehicles, 500 of which will be upgraded by General Dynamics.

Two vehicles will also be equipped with two SD7310 displays in the first phase.

The SD7310 smart display unit is designed for on-the-move operation in armoured fighting and tactical vehicles.

The display integrates a 10.4in ruggedised computer and high-resolution touch-screen display into a single device and suits the size, weight, power and cost (SWAP-C) requirements of space-constrained vehicle platforms.

The order represents the first use of GD’s technology on the MRAP platform.
