Australian Aerospace will deliver seven MRH-90 European-designed multirole helicopters to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) by the end of 2010.

Under the $4bn deal, Australia has ordered 46 MRH-90 choppers for the army and navy, of which, nine have been delivered so far.

The total number of new choppers, which will replace army’s aging US Black Hawk helicopter fleet, will reach 16 by the end of 2010 .

The MRH-90 in 14 other countries differs in design from traditional military helicopters due to the use of composites rather than metal in its construction.

The ADF recently resumed flying MRH-90 choppers after one of the new aircraft suffered an engine failure in one of its two engines
