The US Army has awarded a contract to DRS Technologies to provide logistics support for its mast-mounted sights (MMS).

The MMS sensor suite currently used on the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter is an electro-optical system, which enables the warfighters to identify and target potential threats during day/night and adverse weather conditions.

Under the $20.6m contract, the company will supply spares and provide field service and forward repair activities in the field as well as return of MMS Line Replaceable Units and Shop Replaceable Units.

The sensor suite features a thermal imaging sensor for nighttime operation, a laser rangefinder, a multi-mode tracker and a low light-level television camera.

The contract has been awarded by the US Army’s Aviation and Missile Command and the work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Melbourne, Florida.
