The US Army has awarded a contract to Optex Systems for the supply of additional M137 panoramic telescopes.

The M137 is a specially designed telescope for use on various models of US Army howitzers including M119 and M198.

Optex Systems CEO Danny Schoening said the contract would allow the company’s manufacturing facility to maintain its present rate of M137 production to August 2011.

The $2.5m contract awarded by the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Warren, Michigan, is the fourth order in the final ordering period of the existing five year contract.

Deliveries of the M137 telescopes are scheduled to begin in January 2011 and will continue to August 2011.
