Russia will supply Syria with combat aircraft, defence equipment and armoured military vehicles as part of a military technical cooperation deal.

Under the new deal, Russia will supply Syria with MiG-29 fighter jets, combat helicopters, Pantsir short-range air defence systems and armoured vehicles.

The military cooperation agreement was announced by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev during his first-ever visit to Syria.

The weapons transactions are expected to develop the Syrian defensive potential, and have raised concerns with Israeli authorities, who see the deal as a possible threat.
