Northrop Grumman is intending to bid as prime contractor for the US Army range radar replacement programme (RRRP).

The programme will replace aging and obsolete radar systems at four test centres including White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland and Redstone Test Center in Alabama.

The army used these sites to test weapon systems but the radar inventory at the centres is now insufficient for current and emerging test requirements.

The successful bidder for the RRRP will implement the latest radar technologies and develop a common architecture to significantly enhance performance while minimising overall maintenance costs.
