Navistar Defense has received two contracts worth $191m for the supply of new military tactical vehicles and upgrades for mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) units operating in Afghanistan.

Under the $89m contract awarded by the US Army, Navistar will supply 629 additional medium tactical vehicles.

The contract is part of the company’s three-year contract originally awarded in May 2008 in support of the Afghan National Police and the Afghan National Army.

The vehicles, which are intended for general troop transport, are expected to be delivered in October 2010.

Under the $102m contract awarded by the US Marine Corps System Command, the company will provide vehicle upgrades for a total of 1,222 Dash units operating in Afghanistan.

Beginning in August 2010, installation work is scheduled to be complete by the end of October 2010.
