France has suspended the sale of military electronics and missiles to Pakistan following concerns about Pakistan’s finances and ability to protect sensitive technology.

The suspension of military aid was first published in Le Monde, which cites pressure from India as a major factor in cancelling the missiles deal. The deal was part of the first segment of a €6bn contract.

The military equipment was destined for Pakistan’s JF-17 combat aircraft from a consortium of French companies including ATE, Thales and missile manufacturer MBDA.
