The US Army is receiving tactical battle field training from Northrop Grumman’s innovative virtual, interactive, collaborative, training, resource / environment (VICTR/E) lab using avatars – 3D computer representations of humans.

The avatars, which can move, are designed to interact with soldiers in a scripted, life-like battle or air battle environment.

The virtual reality domain allows one or two soldiers to train with an complete battle staff, which saves the army time and money by replicating a fully operational system.

Northrop Grumman Information Systems Air and Missile Defense Systems vice-president Karen Williams said immersive training provided great benefit to the warfighter.

“It will keep them trained and ready in the valuable skills needed to execute an air battle,” he said.

The lab in Huntsville, Alabama, was created by the company as part of its integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) battle command system (IBCS) contract with the US Department of Defense.
