Kongsberg will supply its Protector weapon control systems for the US Army’s armoured personnel carriers under a $29.5m contract awarded by General Dynamics.

The Protector weapon control system, also known as a remote weapon station, is designed to protect military troops by allowing the vehicle’s weapons to be operated from a protected position inside the vehicle.

The system integrates light and medium-calibre guns as well as missile and grenade launchers.

The M113A1 is a lightly armoured full tracked air transportable personnel carrier specifically designed for troop and cargo transport.

The vehicle is capable of undergoing amphibious operations in streams and lakes, extended cross-country travel over rough terrain, and high speed operation on improved roads and highways.
