Russia plans to conduct large scale Vostok 2010 operational and strategic military exercises in Siberia and the country’s Far East.

As part of the biennial training cycle in the Russian military, it is hoped that the Vostok-2010 drills will improve the operational readiness and interoperability of the various branches of the Russian armed forces.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said the Vostok-2010 strategic exercises would involve units of the Siberian and the Far Eastern military districts, the air force, airborne troops and the Pacific fleet.

In 2009, the Russian military conducted the Caucasus 2009, Zapad 2009 and Ladoga 2009 strategic exercises, and 15 brigade-level and 161 battalion-level drills.
