The US Army has awarded a $9.7m contract to defence products supplier Alliant Techsystems for the continued production of fuses for the M-228 Practice Grenade.

The practice grenade simulates the performance of the lethal hand grenade, including weight and fuse function to provide realistic training in a safe environment.

Production work will be carried out at the company's industrial complex Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) located in Rocket Center, West Virginia.

ABL have delivered a total over 7.5 million fuses since production began in May 2006.
