The US Army has contracted BAE Systems to provide 5,325 Vehicle Emergency Escape (VEE) Window kits, to enhance the safety of the M1151 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV).

The VEE Window technology will help soldiers evacuate the vehicle in an emergency by releasing and pushing out the front window.

The VEE windows technology is adaptable to many tactical up-armoured combat vehicles, including the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles, the family of Medium Tactical Vehicles or Marine Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements.

The US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command awarded the $42m contract.

This contract brings the army’s orders for VEE Window kits to over 17,000 with about 10,000 kits incorporated in the up-armoured M1114 and M1151 HMMWVs.

The contract work will be performed at BAE Systems and industrial partner facilities in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Butler, Pennsylvania.
