The Australian Army’s weapon-locating radar upgrade project has achieved initial operational capability, the country’s defence ministry announced.
The Australian AN/TPQ-36 weapon-locating radar capability enables ground forces to locate enemy mortars, guns and rockets, providing early warning to soldiers.
The AN/TPQ-36 radar technology identifies the firing paths of enemy shells and rockets and uses this data to simultaneously locate up to ten enemy firing points.
The prime contractor, Raytheon, has delivered four of the seven upgraded weapon-locating radars proven suitable for operational employment.
