The Republic of Iraq has awarded a $30.2m contract to Taos Industries of the US for 33,400,938 rounds of non-standard ammunition.

Non-standard ammunition refers to non-Nato standard weapons such as the Soviet calibre 7.62×39 used in AK-47-type assault rifles, which Iraq is replacing with the American 5.56mm M4 carbine.

Earlier this year Taos Industries, a subsidiary of Agility Logistics, also received a non-standard ammunition contract from the Afghan Army.
