South Korea will cut back its regular military exercises as part of a government campaign to save energy amid surging global oil prices, the Defense Ministry has announced.

The ministry plans to reduce its oil consumption by 14% this year by scaling back the number of exercises involving army tanks, navy ships and air force planes.
