General Dynamics C4 Systems and Lockheed Martin have successfully completed the engineering field test and preliminary design review for Increment Two of the Warfighter Information Network Tactical (WIN-T).

WIN-T Increment Two will provide a mobile broadband network that will enable commander and command posts to carry out battle plans and to collaborate while on the move.

The engineering field test assessed technical maturity of key features needed for network mobility, including the Network-Centric Waveform, which allows access to the network and the Highband Networking Waveform, a wideband wireless wide-area networking capability.

The preliminary design review analysed the system design to ensure it met the documented performance and engineering requirements, General Dynamics says.

The WIN-T Increment Two programme is expected to undergo user tests in 2008, followed by deployment to soldiers in 2009.
